In the UK a Consumer Protection Regulations Law is replacing the original Fraudulent Mediums Act of 1951. Psychic swindlers, mediums and other frauds will need to offer a disclosure to clients before they provide their services, however dubious.
Psychics will have to screen their clients before offering their services, in order to determine if there are any pre existing conditions which may cause the client adverse psychological effects, or other trauma, after the consultation, if it can be considered such.
An article published in The Observer states that spiritualists will be required to issue disclaimers, such as "this is a scientific experiment, the results of which cannot be guaranteed."
A scientific experiment? Psychic reading, spirit communication, or any other form of this nonsense is not, and should not be, considered science. Will this new law lend a perceived validity to this baloney, as seen through the eyes of believers and the gullible?
To date there has been no sound evidence to lend support to psychic powers as a real phenomenon. The only phenomenon at work here is continued ignorance and delusion on behalf of the deceived public, and the deceivers who actually believe they have powers to communicate with the dead or see future events, or know things that cannot otherwise be known.
This kind of legislation will at least serve to make these frauds accountable for the consequences of their "services" and consultations. It's a step in the right direction.
Some psychics have spoken out against the new law, claiming it will make them open to scrutiny by skeptical groups and nay sayers. Yes. So, what's wrong with that? If something is valid, it should stand up to scrutiny!
Psychics crying out against legislation that holds them accountable for their actions are confirming what was understood by any intelligent thinker all along: Psychics are rip offs. Scam artists. Phonies and frauds.
